NEIGHBOR'S CHILDREN
2025
Gerlinde Michel
Verlag edition 8, Zürich
ISBN 978-3-85990-358-0

Had Regina known what she was setting in motion—would she have approached Philipp in the restaurant after more than 40 years? After this encounter, the idea of coaxing out memories and life stories from her former neighbors and compiling them into a book wouldn't leave her. However, the undertaking proved more difficult than she had anticipated. Why did Maurice withdraw? Why did Martin remain silent for weeks, not to mention Vera's unexpected outburst upon their first contact? The stories remained fragmentary, or the former playmates refused to talk altogether. Meanwhile, more and more repressed memories from Regina's childhood came to light; she learned shocking things about her father, and about herself. Only after the shocking visit to the spider whisperer Martin and Vera's unflinching account of her perspective on their shared childhood did Regina confront the past. A liberation that made a new beginning possible. “As she listens, something inside her writhes, like the abdomen of a wasp before it stings. And this something wants Rolf to be silent, because it hurts and because it makes her world more fragile than she would like. Deep down, Regina knows that she knew. Known more than she wants to.”

Lyrik
THE NIGHT FREES THE MOON TO SHINE
2018
Patrick Woodford
Treibgut Verlag Berlin
ISBN 978-3-941175-94-5

Poetry in Word and Image "What a brilliant idea to not only photograph these ephemeral images, but also to engage in a lyrical dialogue with them. And thus to draw out the longing, the beauty, and the power inherent in them. Both viewing the images and reading these rich texts are deeply moving." (Prof. Dr. Matthias Zeindler, Reformed Churches of Bern-Jura-Solothurn, Head of Theology)

SUBJECTS OF LIFE -Prayers-
2020
Elisabeth Bürki-Huggler
Berchtold Haller Verlag Bern
ISBN 978-3-85570-156-8
Almost everyone does it. In countless different ways. And yet, there are situations where words are hard to find to express what one feels. Just as life is diverse, so too are the occasions when people want to pray. This little book contains prayers for times in life when words are often difficult to find: whether out of gratitude and joy, in fear and sorrow, when the soul is in pain, or when the heart leaps with joy. "Fan of Life" is a small book that can be used in many ways: on the bedside table or in the pulpit, in a backpack or handbag.

LISTENING TO THE SACRED Poems from the silence
2022
Marianne Vogel Kopp
Theologischer Verlag Zürich
ISBN 978-3-290-18476-6
Christianity encompasses a wealth of diverse prayer traditions, ranging from verbal dialogue with God to imageless silence. Marianne Vogel Kopp's poems invite readers to embark on a contemplative path. They speak of how contemplative prayer gradually transforms one's being, but also of the painful confrontation with one's own shadow side. These personal texts are rooted in the long tradition of Christian mysticism and offer a mature approach to spirituality in the 21st century. Thus, they are both an insider's view of a journey of experience and an encouragement to walk it. Illustrations with calligraphy by Anja Kiel

For "Spiez Writes," this book is a special case, as it is neither poetry nor a novel. It highlights the diversity of authors from Spiez. In agriculture, it is a widely used reference handbook, and a kind of thriller, as it describes ways out of threatening situations. It is suitable for all levels of teaching, and for consulting and practical application in integrated label production (IP-Suisse) and organic farming (Bio-Suisse). The book also provides interested non-farmers with easily understandable insights into agroecological basics and shows how sustainable production can be achieved. Since the book presents so-called pests and beneficial insects in detail, it goes beyond the everyday needs of small-scale hobby gardeners. Those interested can therefore borrow the book free of charge from the author. ...

Farmhouse Villars-Bramard VD, 1800
2022
Sybille Woodford
Ballenberg, Freilichtmuseum der Schweiz, Hofstetten
ISBN 978-3-906698-83-0
The size and design of the farmhouse in Villars-Bramard reflect the self-confidence and pride of a wealthy builder. With all the architectural quality, one almost forgets that the walls enclose a ‘normal’ functional building, whose interior layout follows a tried-and-tested and widespread spatial scheme. In Haute-Broye and Jura, just over half of the detached farmhouses are divided into three sections across the ridge. The layout commonly found in the Swiss Plateau, where the barn and feeding area are located between the living quarters and the stable, has been modified in many buildings in the Vaud Plateau in favour of a centrally located stable. This layout offers better protection for livestock from the cold and makes it easier for farmers to access the animals via a direct passage between the hallway and the stable. One of six Ballenberg building documentations, which the author wrote in part in collaboration with co-authors, describes the museum building at its place of origin and explains the structural changes that took place during the relocation. Topics include the building culture of rural Switzerland, the history of its inhabitants and economy, and the museum's educational work.

Life hacks for the skeptical
2023
Ruedi Heinzer
Theologischer Verlag Zürich
ISBN-Nr: 978-3-290-18523-7
The faith in God that Jesus ignited is under attack—no less so today than ever before. Isn't religion mere wishful thinking and outdated? How can God allow so much suffering? Is there life after death? Why does God remain hidden if he exists? Ruedi Heinzer poses these and many other groundbreaking questions—and gives each one equal space for possible answers, namely a full page. This concise format and the accessible explanations—life hacks in the best sense—make the discussion about God and the world engaging, easy to understand, and entertaining. Foreign words and controversial terms are further explained in a witty glossary at the end. The lively and humorous language and the breadth of topics discussed make this book a guide to modern, pragmatic, and theologically grounded faith. — Faith in God—Explained for the Critical — One Topic—One Double Page — Original, Engaging, Accessible
